Shoveling Snow

Who Shouldn’t Shovel Snow

  • Men with heart disease.
  • Healthy Men over 50.
  • Healthy Women over 60.

What You Will Need

  • Warm clothes
  • 2 shovels (plastic one & metal one)
  • Can of non-stick spray
  • Optional (sand, salt, or kitty litter).

Step One

Do 5-10 minutes of stretching exercises to warm up your muscles.

Step Two

Wear multiple layers of clothing (hat, scarf, gloves, etc.).

Step Three

Spray the shovels with cooking spray.  This will keep the snow from sticking.

Step Four

Use the metal shovel to push the snow out of the way.  Remember, push but don’t lift.

Step Five

Use the plastic shovel to scoop up small amounts of snow, just an inch or two at a time.

Step Six

Take one step forward before dumping the snow.

Step Seven

Take a break every 15 minutes.

Step Eight

Scatter salt on icy/slick patches to help melt them.
